Did you know that making a vision board is an important part of receiving from God? True story! Today, I want to explain why–and show you how to make a vision board if you/ve never done one before.
You should make a vision board showcasing everything you want from God.
The Bible is clear about the importance of writing the vision. It says:
“Then the Lord answered me and said:
‘Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
In the context of this passage, Habakkuk was needy.
He was crying out to God to do something. God’s answer, in Jamie’s authorized-by-herself modern vernacular? “Write the vision down. Make it really big, so that the person who reads it can do something about it.”
He also said, basically, “Hey, that vision’s coming. Wait for it; what you see is true.”
Whoa!
How many of you have a vision that you see in your heart, but it’s nowhere on the horizon … YET?
That vision is coming. It’s going to get here. The vision is not a lie or a figment of your imagination. The vision is a glimpse of your future that God gave you, and He wants you to wait for it.
And in order to manifest that vision on the earth, God WANTS YOU TO WRITE IT DOWN.
That’s what a vision board is: a written vision of the dream in your heart.
When my pastor prophesied at the beginning of 2017 that 2017 was the year of everything, I knew that prophecy meant I was to have a baby that year. After many years of “not gonna happens” from doctors, I knew GOD was going to give me my baby.
So I made a vision board. I went to my local big box craft store and bought stickers and magazines and craft paper about babies. I came home that afternoon and made a vision board. It looked like this:
And at the end of 2017, sure enough, I brought home the vision: a beautiful baby boy! And we received everything we asked the Lord for!
I also made a vision board for our ministry.
Here’s what it looks like:
I told God exactly what I want. And sure enough, He’s working on it!
I have a friend who believes “they that run” when they read your written vision (per Habakkuk 2) are angels.
My friend’s name is Maria, and she’s a vision-board-making genius. She’ll be teaching on vision-boarding on this site also in the very near future. I don’t know if she’s right or not, but I do know that angels move in response to God’s Word; so if you’ve obeyed God’s Word and written the vision–and if your vision is based on God’s Word–then angels have no choice but to carry it out.
Psalm 103:20 says:
“Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word.”
God’s angels heed the voice of His Word. And on a vision board, you’re writing down the Scriptures you want them to heed! So, it only makes sense that angels help!
What do you want to receive from God right now?
I want a lot. I have a vision board for our finances; the one for ministry you see above; and, right now, I feel Holy Spirit strongly urging me to make a vision board for a new house.
We are very grateful for the house we live in, and we’re working on paying it off whenever we get cash we can throw at it. But, to say “the house does not meet our needs” is an understatement. It doesn’t do what we need at all.
It will be ok if we stay in our current house a long, long time. We’re still blessed. However, since I serve a God of miracles, and since He is urging me to anyway, I’m going to make a vision board of the house I want.
I’ll include things like:
- A laundry room!
- Storage space! (Novel concept, I know. The company that built our house apparently never thought much of storage space.)
- More places to sit in our living room! (Our floor plan is so bad right now that there’s only space for a sofa and two chairs, so when I want to teach classes in my home, there’s very little space for people to sit.)
- Bedrooms for the children and for my mom, who stays with us a lot! … with enough space to fit Elijah’s swing, crib, clothes, etc all in one room! (The rooms we have are too small for his things to fit in his room, because swings and bouncy seats etc take up floor space.)
- My dream: a screened-in porch, so I can sit outside to pray and read my Bible!
I’m blessed in our current house, and I’m content. But, I know Papa is a great big God and He can do even more. I don’t want to try to make it happen in my own flesh, but I believe my Father could give us everything we ask and more.
After all, 1 Corinthians 2:9 says:
“But as it is written:
‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'”
And Ephesians 3:20-21 says:
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
So. I’m going to make that vision board and see what God wants to do with it, as His angels run with the vision. 🙂
What do you need to make a vision board about today?
If you have not made a vision board for the things that matter to you–for your business, finances, marriage, new house, new car, your own personal ministry, or life in general, PLEASE …
I urge you to do so. It is an URGENT matter in the Spirit. The Lord is speaking to me about this very urgently!
Here’s how to make a vision board:
(And there are plenty of other ways you could do this, but these are just the steps I took.)
1. Get a background board or canvas.
I used an inexpensive 18″x24″ white canvas from Hobby Lobby. This way, it is easy to hang on the wall.
2. If you don’t like the background of the board, cover it with something.
I didn’t like white, so I covered mine by gluing scrapbooking paper over it.
3. Add a title panel.
4. Add notecards or placards (I made placards out of white cardstock with colored cardstock taped behind it) with Scriptures on them.
Types of Scriptures to include:
- Your promises (relevant to the topic of the board).
- Your mandates (e.g. “Go into all the world” or “Heal the sick” or whatever your ministry is).
- Things that describe the desires of your heart.
5. Add a placard for goals.
Write your goals down and put them on there. (Helpful tip: If you affix your goals using washi tape instead of glue or regular tape, you can peel them off and replace them as needed over time.) I made two spaces for goals on our ministry vision board: one for short-term goals and one for goals up to 10 years out.
6. Add decorations, embellishments, and words that carry spiritual/personal meaning to you.
You could use magazine cutouts, stickers, or anything else. For example, I placed fish stickers around some of my Scriptural mandates, because fish represent souls. I also placed single words (“restore,” “heal,” “raise,” “prophesy”) here and there.
You would not have to make your board look anything like mine, of course! You do you. Make yours as simple or as fancy as you like. But those are just the steps I took.
Making a vision board is SO important.
My friend Maria is going to teach on more things to do with your board that really make it even more powerful in the Spirit. I will stop there because I don’t want to steal her thunder. I learned the importance of vision-boarding from HER! And now I’m a vision-board addict.
God has really gripped me as I have made our vision boards. I can’t even describe how much. Each board made things seem so much more clear, more urgent, and more REAL than ever before. The boards have also helped my husband and I fine-tune the direction we want to go in each aspect of our lives.
If you haven’t done this yet for each area of life that’s important to you, please grab the materials for your first board today and get started!
What area of life are you going to vision-board about? Please leave a comment below!

This was a great post, because I write things down, but in my journals. I think having a vision board where everything is in plain view will be a great help. Thank you!

Jaime,I love this idea! I never knew God Blessed you with a child. Do you have a link on your site for your story? Did you pray for a baby boy before you know we’re going to be blessed with a baby boy ? Congrats!!! So happy for you and your husband! God is so Good!
Jamie Rohrbaugh says
Hi Whitney. Yes, we prayed for a boy. We wrote down exactly what we wanted and what we wanted him to be like, claimed Scripture over it, and took communion over it. And God gave us everything we asked for! This vision board post is the closest thing I think I have to writing about that. 🙂 But thank you! Yes, God is so good! Our son is such a delight!

I definitely will draw one now! I had them written down in a journal but I will now do the vision boards!!! God bless you for this WORD!
